Tomas Kaberle Sad to Leave Toronto, Glad to Be With Contender in Boston

Tomas KaberleCALGARY -- Knowing your name is constantly being bandied about in trade rumors can be a mentally draining thing. Just ask Tomas Kaberle. He's been the subject of that talk for years.

Finally, though, it became more than just talk on Feb. 18 when the veteran defenseman was traded by the Toronto Maple Leafs to the contending Boston Bruins.

"It's part of the NHL, part of the business,'' shrugged the 32-year-old native of Rakovnik, Czech Republic. "My name has been mentioned the last few years and I was trying to focus on the hockey games. This happened and it's sad on the one part; on the other hand it's another challenge for me. I'm happy it was the Boston Bruins. It's a great team and a great organization and I'm looking forward to that.

"I felt if I go somewhere, I would like to play on a team that has a chance to win the Stanley Cup.''

Kaberle donned the black and gold against the Ottawa Senators on the same day he was traded, so needless to say he's enjoyed spending the last few days packing up his belongings and getting to know his new mates outside of a game scenario.
