Following a horrific crash last week, BMX star TJ Lavin remains in a coma.
Doctors have even diagnosed the host of MTV's The Challenge with pneumonia - likely related to his breathing tube - but all others signs are encouraging, sources say, especially because Lavin's brain has been cleared from serious damage.
"Everything is good there," said Lavin's friend and business manager, Chas Aday. "Doctors are not expecting any [brain damage], but we're just not going to know until he wakes up if there is any loss or how bad it is going to be."
Medical personnel will treat the pneumonia this week and hopefully remove Lavin's breathing tube.
Once this takes place, the professional biker could come out of his coma and open his eyes, something that has not taken place since his accident in Las Vegas.
"Getting the tube out is the big thing. That's what's holding him back," Aday told People. "Once they get the tube out, he could be home two, three, maybe four days later. … They don't know."
Lavin also has a broken wrist and surgery on it will be scheduled once the pneumonia goes away. Friends are confident everything will turn out well for the long-time star.
"He'll pull through, for sure, and I guarantee you he'll be back riding on the bike again," said fellow BMX-er Anthony Napolitan.
