D.C. United-Portland Timbers match postponed
Citing general public safety concerns because of the anticipated impact of Hurricane Irene, Major League Soccer has postponed the game between D.C. United and the Portland Timbers, previously scheduled for tomorrow at RFK Stadium.
The game will be rescheduled and the new date and time announced next week. Tickets from Saturday?s contest will be valid on the make-up date.

U.S. Soccer announced today that United goalkeeper Bill Hamid has been called-up to the U.S. Men?s National Team for two friendly matches against Costa Rica and Belgium. Jurgen Klinsmann?s squad will host Costa Rica at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. on September 2 and will then travel to Brussels to face Belgium on September 6.

WASHINGTON ? On August 13, with Bill Hamid serving a red card suspension, D.C. United third ?keeper Joe Willis recorded a shutout in a 4-0 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps in his MLS debut. Eight days later, Willis took a hard luck 1-0 loss on Aug. 21 against Sporting Kansas City.
The performances proved that Willis can hack it in MLS. But if it weren?t for ties to DC assistant coach Chad Ashton, Willis may have never made his way to the nation?s capital at all.

Major League Soccer today announced the postponed match between D.C. United and the Portland Timbers, originally scheduled for Saturday, August 27, has been set for Wednesday, October 19. The match will kickoff at 8:00 p.m. ET at RFK Stadium. Tickets from the original contest, bearing the date of August 27, will be valid on October 19.

Since being acquired from the San Jose Earthquakes for allocation money on June 27, the central defender has become a crucial part of United?s defensive success.
