PREVIEW: DC at HOU

The Houston Dynamo return home for FOX Soccer Friday, when they play host to D.C. United at Robertson Stadium. The Dynamo are riding a five-game unbeaten streak, coming off a dramatic 1-1 draw at the Chicago Fire last weekend. D.C. United are coming off a 4-0 home loss to the New York Red Bulls, which canceled out a big win in Toronto the week before.

Ashton: DC don't know how to succeed right now

Heading into Friday night?s match at Houston, D.C. United had preached discipline and keeping tight at the back.

But the same defensive lapses that have plagued the team in losses this year were evident once again as the club conceded four goals for the second straight league game ? and the third time this season ? in a 4-1 loss against the Dynamo.

WASHINGTON ? Visits to Houston have never been easy for D.C. United.

The team hasn?t won in five previous trips to Robertson Stadium, and heading into Friday evening?s Eastern Conference clash (8:30 pm ET; FOX Soccer, Official viewing party at Touchdown sports bar), DC are readying themselves for yet another tough matchup.

HOUSTON - On the back of rookie Will Bruin's hat trick, the Houston Dynamo took care of D.C. United, 4-1, at home on Friday night to temporarily take the top spot in the Eastern Conference.

Bruin scored twice in the first half and once more in the second to become the first Dynamo rookie to notch a hat trick. Fellow forward Cam Weaver added the Dynamo's fourth, also in the second half.

United's lone goal of the match came off a free kick from defender Marc Burch.

Onstad looks forward to Houston homecoming

HOUSTON ? Every time the chant rang out from the supporters sections at Robertson Stadium, you?d know the veteran goalkeeper had just made another save:

?You?ll never beat Pat Onstad.?

That refrain was heard a number of times during Onstad?s career in Houston, especially when the club was winning back-to-back MLS Cups in 2006 and '07. His stellar play was a big reason for the Dynamo?s success as the Canadian international was a security blanket for one of the league?s best defenses.

The Revolution jumped out to a 3-0 lead and held on despite a second-half onslaught by DC, who trimmed the deficit thanks to two Branko Boskovic goals.

Goals coming in bunches for new-look DC

WASHINGTON ? Scoring goals simply doesn?t seem to be as big of a problem anymore for the new-look D.C. United.

Thanks in part to five goals from league-leader Charlie Davies, United have scored nine goals through six games, almost half what they managed in all of 2010.

One of the biggest keys has been the introduction of new faces into the mix, and the club has impressed in brief stretches in the attack by their ability to possess and pass the ball.

MLS Power Rankings: Week 6

The Power Rankings committee faced some real issues this week, but not quite as big as the ones facing the Seattle Sounders and FC Dallas. The question for both these teams becomes how they'll do without their injured stars, and the PR committee, for one, will give them the benefit of the doubt until they prove otherwise. Got an issue? Vote for your own!

WASHINGTON ? Despite Thierry Henry?s slow start to his 2011 MLS season, Ben Olsen and the D.C. United coaching staff knew that containing the striker was vital to succeed against New York on Thursday evening.

Climbing the Ladder: How MLS teams rank by age

Over the years, looking at the MLS average age can explain quite a bit of the league?s history: consistent from 1996 to 2001, dropping in 2002 after contraction and rising upon expansion and the introduction of the Designated Player rule.

Now for the second straight season, the league?s average age is poised to drop as Home Grown players grow in influence and younger foreign stars are more easily signed.
