Olsen: United's failure to kill off Chivas inexcusable

WASHINGTON ? Up two goals in the second half, at home, against a Chivas USA team they beat 3-0 only 11 earlier, D.C. United were poised to continue to make a push towards the playoffs.

But in what has been an all too familiar refrain at RFK Stadium, DC squandered a lead, couldn?t close out a game, and dropped two points thanks to a pair of Juan Pablo ngel goals in the second half.

Head coach Ben Olsen didn?t take kindly to the 2-2 result.

Quaranta, Hamid return from injury to bolster United

D.C. United?s pesky injury bug appears to be nearing an end.

Goalkeeper Bill Hamid and midfielder Santino Quaranta are set to make a return to the starting lineup against Chivas USA on Wednesday at RFK Stadium (Buy tickets) after missing Saturday?s 3-0 loss to the Seattle Sounders.

Quaranta, who was scratched from the lineup against Seattle with a left quadriceps spasm, trained all last week in the lead-up to the game but was eventually held out from the 18-man roster.

24 Under 24: Finding Najar

When D.C. United's Andy Najar moved from his native Honduras to the United States with his family a mere five years ago, playing professional soccer was the last thing on his mind.

It was a move spurred on by the desire to have a better life.

?I came to this country like any other immigrant, ready to study and work for a better future and that?s what I tried to do when I started high school,? Najar told MLSsoccer.com.

DC Notebook: For busy United, no time to dwell on loss

D.C. United had no time to dwell on the 3-0 thumping administered to them by the Sounders on Saturday, and immediately shifted focus to their next game: a home date with Chivas USA on Wednesday night.

?When you're in a playoff race like this, you can't sit on these too much,? head coach Ben Olsen said after the Seattle game.

The loss, combined with a number of other unfavorable results on the evening, bumped DC out of the wild card spot for the time being.
